I had the pleasure of meeting Ellen at my photography studio in Smithburg while photographing portraits of women over 40.
She possesses a smile that is incredibly infectious, which is something I admire about her. Ellen values time and cherishes special moments where she can relax and enjoy herself without limitations based on age. Her approach to life is inspiring; instead of letting age dictate her choices, she chooses to live life according to her own terms. Nothing excites me more than watching Ellen light up a room with her energy and enthusiasm for life!

So, when I found out about her interest in being a part of my 40-over-40 portrait session project I knew she'd be perfect for it. She expressed admiration for the concept of showcasing such portraits in a gallery and celebrating women as they age. She found it refreshing to see attention given to aging gracefully rather than solely striving for youthfulness. As someone who has often been perceived as younger than her actual age, she felt drawn to the idea of being part of the 40-over-40 project and receiving some well-deserved recognition.
“I love the idea that you're putting these in a gallery and that you're exhibiting your talent and you're honoring women as they age. I mean, that's just such a beautiful idea, and we don't do enough of that. It’s usually you're trying to look younger, and all my life, people always thought I was younger than I was, so now I'm finally like, yeah, that's cool. So, the idea that you were doing 40 over 40 really intrigued me, and I just thought it's time to have a little attention.”

In Ellen's opinion, the best part of being over 40 is that “ I've fully grown into my ME suit... I'm not always bombarded with everyone else's needs. It's time to feel responsible for my own needs and wishes. I have my own permission to grow into myself fully and shed the historic version with a lot of those shredded roles.”
Ellen's proudest achievements include... “Building my own business and sustaining it for close to 20 years without justifying my income - the reward is so much more than the financial revenue stream. I feel I have made a huge difference for many, and I'm still having a blast. And there's still time for the revenue success to take center stage again.”
