“Preserve your memories, keep them well, what you forget you can never retell”
-Louise May Alcott
Behind each portrait and unique photograph there is a memory attached. From the time I was a young girl I recognized the value of photographs. Going through my parents’ old albums and portrait boxes was fun for me. I enjoyed looking into the faces of my parents’ youth, seeing them alongside their siblings, and noticing my own reflection in them. Most of all, though, it was what came with the pictures that I hold most dear. I would take a photo in my hand and a smile would come across my parents’ faces, as they began to remember times gone by. Fond stories came to mind and were shared with me. These moments, sitting beside my parents and having pictures to help build the story, are priceless.
Now, I am a mother of five beautiful children who are growing older each day. My children look through our albums and they light up. They ask me questions and I tell our story. I see, again, just how valuable each picture I have becomes.
