PREPARTATION IS KEY
Remember that headshot photography is a collaboration effort between you and your photographer. Preparation can help you achieve the best possible headshot that aligns with your goals and vision.
Your Guide
-
A good night’s sleep will ensure you are refreshed for your photoshoot.
Don’t forget to eat something and drink lots of water before arriving.
-
Consider getting a haircut a few days before the shoot for a polished appearance. Men may want to be clean shaven and touch up neck lines, eyebrows and nose hair.
Moisturize your skin especially your hands and nail beds.
-
The fit of your clothing is important. Baggy or excessively tight clothing won’t bring out your best.
I recommend wearing a pressed plain dress shirt without patterns (solid color) with crisp collars and collar stays. We don’t want curled collars! Shirts with more structure are better than floppy shirts.
Wear or bring at least one suit or sport jacket. Simple, solid colors without busy patterns are best.
Unless your company has said you are not wearing ties in your headshots, bring a couple to try, if you’d like to wear a tie. If you don’t want to wear a tie, I recommend shirts that are thick enough to work well without an undershirt. Or wear a v‑neck undershirt that isn’t visible when the top button of your dress shirt is undone.
Bring options including at least one full look with pants and shoes.
-
If makeup and/or hair is booked, arrive with a clean face and dry hair. It’s always helpful to do a light exfoliation on your face, even just with a washcloth. Let the makeup artist know if you have any sensitivities, and feel free to bring some inspiration photos for your makeup look.
Use clear deodorant & moisturize your body before your session.
If you normally do your nails, get a manicure and pedicure before you session (or DIY at home). Your hands and feet will show in many of your images and we don’t want chipped polish!
For your session we do NOT recommend a spray tan if you haven’t had one done before as it will affect how your skin tone will photograph. You should also stay out of the sun to avoid any burns before your session! Retouching of streaks, tanlines and sunburns is not included in the retouching but available for an extra charge.
Having freshly trimmed and coloured hair and eyebrows done - if that’s your thing - will make you feel like a supermodel during your session!
-
The fit of your clothing is important. Baggy or excessively tight clothing won’t bring out your best.
For individual sessions, wear your best fitting professional top/dress.
Solid or at least non-distracting patterns are best.
Bring a professional jacket if that’s a look you want.
You should bring at least 3 choices but feel free to bring more options.
-
If you wear glasses every day, you should have your glasses in your headshot. If you sometimes wear glasses and sometimes wear contacts, bring the glasses to try.
If you have multiple pairs, bring them, so we can try multiple frames and lenses.
-
Keep accessories simple and understated, as they shouldn’t distract from your face. Jewelry, glasses, and other accessories should enhance your look, not overpower it.
-
Please arrive on time for your appointment; if you arrive early, we may still be with another client. Late arrival will be deducted from your session time.
Hair and makeup will take approximately 1 hour so come prepared to be pampered for a while!
The deposit for your session is non-refundable and there is a $100 rescheduling fee; please allow a minimum of 3 days notice for rescheduling.
