Embracing the Ageless Spirit

In Lisa's own words, "My name is Lisa. I'm 54, which is kind of hard to say because I don't feel 54." She resonates with the idea that age is just a number and believes that she is as youthful as her spirit. Her passion for dance, which has grown over the years, exemplifies her youthful energy. She's a dance enthusiast, and she believes that she dances better now than she did in her younger years, all thanks to her accumulated experience. She's also actively involved in teaching exercise classes, which keeps her young at heart. Lisa's story is a testament to the adage that age is just a number, and it's our spirit that truly defines us.

“My name is Lisa. I'm 54, which is kind of hard to say because I don't feel 54. I feel the same as I did in my 20s, just my mind and my spirit. Of course, things start go wrong with your body, but I just think that you're as old as you think you are. I see other people that are my age that are active a lot or their age, I guess, or older, but I love to dance, and I think I'm a better dancer now than I was probably, definitely when I was like 18. A better dancer now, just with experience. And I teach exercise classes and I'm not going to let age stop me until I have to because I love to dance. It's my happy place. I also love teaching and that keeps me young too, being around the kids.”-Lisa

Enjoying the Journey

With the passing of time, Lisa has discovered the joys of having more free time. Her children have grown and moved out, which brought occasional bouts of loneliness, but it also opened up new avenues for Lisa. She's now nurturing her friendships and exploring hobbies that she didn't have time for earlier. Lisa's life is evolving, and she's determined to savor every moment. Her advice to her younger self is simple but profound: enjoy the present and don't get too caught up in the challenges. There's a lot to look forward to as you grow older, even amidst the inevitable losses.

“Things I'm looking forward to and things I enjoy about this age. I have a lot more free time than I did before. Luckily, I work a flexible job, but sometimes I get lonely because I miss my kids who've all grown and moved out. But I'm developing other in other areas, my friendships and Hobbies and things that I can do now that I couldn't do before. So, it's different now. And I would guess, I would tell myself my younger self that, enjoy what you have now, don't get too caught up in the hard stuff and enjoy it. But there's some great stuff to look forward to as well as you get older. I have lost some of my loved ones, my mother, my brother, my grandmother. And so that was difficult. And of course, there will be more loss, but then I have two grandbabies. So, there's also things that I have come into my life that I didn't know would be so wonderful and so there are great things to still look forward to. So, I'm going to try to focus on the positive and just enjoy life while I've got it and have fun on a journey.”-Lisa

The Power of Capturing the Present

When Lisa came across an Ad for 40 Over 40, she immediately thought it sounded like fun. She wanted to capture her current self before the sands of time shifted even further.

“Yeah, when I saw the ad, I thought, that sounds like fun. A lot of people tell me I don't look my age, which I attribute to dancing and just a positive attitude. But of course, I look more my age as I age. So, I wanted to capture how I am now before I get older.” - Lisa

Celebrating Women in Their Prime

Lisa's story highlights the importance of celebrating women in their prime years. Lisa firmly believes in celebrating women as they age, acknowledging that they have a lot to offer to society and their families. She appreciated the focus on women of her age, as they often feel invisible or overlooked. As society often shifts its focus away from older individuals, Lisa's vibrancy and zest for life challenge these preconceptions. She believes that women, as they age, have a lot to offer, both to society and their families.

“I thought this was a great opportunity to do that. And I just think it's a great thing to celebrate, especially women as they get older. A lot of times we may feel invisible, or we may be overlooked, and I think that we have a lot to offer to society and to our families. I think that focusing on women of this age is a wonderful thing, because a lot of times, as I said, as you get older, you're focusing more on other people and kind of feel invisible sometimes.”- Lisa

Preparing for the Photo Shoot

Lisa felt well-prepared for her photoshoot with Diana. She mentioned that Diana provided clear instructions on what to bring and how to prepare for the session. Lisa described the experience as being in the spotlight for a short while, and it was like playing the role of a model. For Lisa, the beauty of age is having the freedom to choose when to be visible or invisible, and she thoroughly enjoyed her time in the spotlight.

So, it was wonderful today with Diana, and I felt very prepared. She prepared me well for what to bring and how to prepare for the photo shoot. And it was just fun being in the spotlight for a little while and feeling like a fake model because I'm not a model, but know, playing model, but just fun having the spotlight for a little while. I wouldn't want it all the time. So that's the nice thing about being older, is you can be invisible if you want to be. You can do kind of whatever you want, and people won't really notice, which is fun. But, yeah, that was a great experience. I would just recommend it to all my friends and anyone else who is interested. I felt like I had everything I needed because she gave me a great packing list of things to bring. I brought more than I needed, so she didn't mind that. She was patient with me on that. So, I appreciate that.” – Lisa

Lisa's Vision for Her Photos

Lisa has big plans for her portrait photos. She mentioned that she needs new business photos for her role as a director of the Loudoun Cotillion program. These elegant photos will serve a professional purpose, but she also captured some fun shots that she looks forward to sharing. She wants these photos to be a snapshot of who she was at this age, a beautiful memento of this unique time in her life.
